Friend, tomorrow marks the 13th anniversary of the disastrous Supreme Court ruling in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which ruled that dark money special interest groups and corporations can spend unlimited funds on elections.
Ever since the 2010 decision, our elections have been influenced by wealthy far-right donors, dark money groups, and megacorporations who spend record-breaking amounts year after year to prop up candidates, many of whom are staunchly anti-immigrant and ardent supporters of Trumpism.
As a result, we have some politicians in Congress who proudly tout extremist policies that are deeply out of touch with the views and values of most people in America — and who refuse to work across party lines to pass commonsense legislation. Today, we are sending our representatives a reminder that they are in Washington, D.C. to represent the people who elected them, not the wealthy interests funding their campaigns.
That means listening to the majority of Americans who support a pathway to citizenship for immigrant youth, who believe that our country should have a humane and functioning asylum system, and who recognize the enormous contributions that immigrants make every single day to our country.
Folks, a majority of Americans support meaningful change to our immigration system, including passing a pathway to citizenship and restoring asylum. Help us send your members of Congress a reminder that their job is to represent the will of the American people — not special interests.
With you by our side, we are stronger than the wealthy and powerful forces that continue to try to halt our progress. No matter what — we will not be deterred from bringing power back to the people.
Thank you,
