Team –

Millions of Americans across the country rely on the Social Security and Medicare benefits that they’ve worked hard throughout their lives to earn. These programs ensure that some of the most vulnerable members of our community receive support and healthcare. It shouldn’t be controversial.

But there are extreme Republicans who disagree. Some have pushed to sunsetting these programs. And others insist on raising the retirement age because, in their words, people “actually want to work longer.” That’s pretty ridiculous, friend.

Make no mistake: Raising the retirement age would be the first step in a longer attack on crucial programs like Social Security and Medicare. So, when over a quarter of people in IL-17 are over age 60, one of the best ways I can represent our district is to fight for the protections they earned.

That’s why my Democratic House colleagues and I will continue to push hard against any and all attacks on these critical pieces of our social safety net.

I won’t be asking you to donate today, but I want to know you’re with me on this issue. So will you sign our petition below to show your support for maintaining the current retirement age and protecting Social Security?

Thank you,

Eric
