Dear Neighbors,
I was pleased to announce this week that the World Trade Center Health Program added all types of uterine cancer to the list of covered conditions. This will ensure 9/11 survivors and heroic first responders receive the care and treatment they need for uterine cancer without cost-sharing.
I have been a longtime advocate for first responders and survivors of the attacks on September 11, 2001. I helped pass the bipartisan James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 that was signed into law in 2011 and that established the World Trade Center Health Program and the Nationwide Provider Network.
The bill also established the World Trade Center Program clinic at Rutgers’ Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences Institute (EOHSI) in Piscataway that has treated thousands of first responders and survivors. While we certainly can never fully repay our nation’s deep gratitude to those who bravely responded during one of our nation’s darkest hours, I’m relieved the WTC Health Program will now cover all types of cancer.
Republicans’ Dangerous Economic Game
As the U.S. is set to reach its borrowing limit this week, House Republicans are holding our economy hostage so that they can cut Social Security, Medicare, and other essential programs. Business leaders, economists, and other experts continue to warn about the costs of their brinksmanship for the U.S. economy.
This is a dangerous game with potentially catastrophic consequences for our economy. Congress should raise the debt ceiling without pre-conditions, because the United States has an obligation to pay off the expenses we already incurred. Americans deserve real leadership in Congress that is ready to solve problems – not needlessly destroy our economy.
