1. WRAL: Democratic NC
Attorney General Josh Stein to run for governor
“North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein announced plans
to run for governor Wednesday - one of the first major campaign
announcements for state office ahead of the 2024 election.
The decision sets the stage for a potential political battle
focused on culture war issues and abortion rights in the state. Much
of Stein's video announcement focused on Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, the
presumed Republican front-runner in the race.”

2. CAROLINA JOURNAL: Why I’m
suing the NC Department of Public Instruction
“Teachers are fired nearly every
day in America, for all kinds of reasons. None should include a
teacher’s doing exactly what he was hired to do and had done without
complaint several times before.
That, however, was my experience in
losing my job of eight years teaching at the North Carolina Governor’s
School, a residential summer program for our state’s most talented,
rising high-school seniors. During the 2021 session, I was dismissed
without warning or explanation right after giving a series of lectures
espousing the principles of free inquiry and viewpoint diversity on
which the Governor’s School is based.
That’s an irony apparently lost on
the program’s administrators.”

4. FOX NEWS: Abortions in
Texas plummet nearly 99% months after Dobbs
ruling
“Only three abortions took place in Texas in August 2022, all
of which were ‘medically necessary,’ according to statistics from the
Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
Compared with the 2,596 abortions recorded in the state in
June 2022, the number in August represents a decrease of nearly 99%.
Sixty-eight abortions were performed in July.”

5. PORT CITY DAILY: NHCSB members
flex right-wing muscles, transgender sports participation up for
debate again
“The majority of the New Hanover
County Board of Education voted to send a contentious amendment on
transgender sports participation back to the policy committee.
Policy 3620 outlines participation
requirements for extracurricular activities and student organizations.
In June 2021, the board voted 5-2 to amend the policy to allow middle
school students to play on the sports team that aligns with their
gender identity. (High school students’ participation is based on
assigned sex, or gain approval from the North Carolina High School
Athletic Association).”

WEEKLY PRAYER: FREEDOM
LORD, you have blessed us with a spiritual liberty that is so
wonderful and beyond description, that it can only be understood
through experiencing a life-giving relationship with Christ. However,
we also recognize that in your grace, you have blessed our country
with a political liberty that enables us to openly proclaim the
experience of a life lived in the freedom of the Gospel.
LORD, as individuals and as a nation, may we never take the
inalienable right of religious freedom for granted. Right now our
country has faced a rapid increase in the number of attacks made
against this cherished right. We have seen groups across our public
arena increase in boldness and frequency their smears against
religious liberty. They claim it is bigotry, when we know it is the
security of the greatest of all possible loves.
Be with your people and our country as it continues to protect
the constitutional right protected by our nation’s Founders. Be with
legislators and the Supreme Court, as they determine through their
actions the protection of this particular and fundamental
freedom.
“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep
standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”
(Galatians 5:1)
“For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn
your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve
one another.” (Galatians 5:13)
“Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for
evil, but use it as bondslaves of God.” (1 Peter 2:16)
Amen
