Known as the canaries of the sea, belugas make a variety of sounds—chirps, clicks, screeches, grunts, whistles, and squeals—for communication and echolocation. |

Beluga whales are highly social animals. They live, hunt, and migrate in pods of a few to hundreds of individuals. Adults are snow-white and lack a dorsal fin, their necks are unusually flexible (enabling them to turn their heads almost 90 degrees to the side), and they can make a variety of facial expressions. |
