In Oregon, powered by members like you, we spearheaded the Measure 110 campaign, making Oregon the first state in the nation to decriminalize drug possession and shift to a health-based approach to drugs — investing hundreds of millions of dollars in expanding access to health, harm reduction, and treatment. It serves as an example for how people-centered drug policies can improve our society.
In New York City, following years of our advocacy, the city opened the nation’s first legally sanctioned overdose prevention centers to reduce the likelihood of accidental overdose and provide participants with health care, counseling, and referrals to health and social services, including drug treatment. Staff at the centers have already reversed more than 650 overdoses in little over a year of operation.
And last year President Biden stepped forward to pardon people convicted of simple marijuana possession at the federal level, encouraging governors to take similar action at the state level. It’s the first-ever marijuana reform action to come from the White House.
