Legislative Update
Hello Neighbor,
It is great to be back at the capitol and doing the work for the new district 28A in the people?s house. This biennium I am serving on the Housing Finance & Policy and Judiciary Finance & Civil Law committees. Some of my priorities that I hope to see passed this session include an end to the tax on social security, addressing our ballooning budget surplus, and ways we can return it to the taxpayers.
On the floor this week we faced the democrat?s top priority bill House File 1. This extreme piece of legislation puts our laws around abortion in line with the likes of communist China and North Korea. I am disappointed that the majority was completely unwilling to contemplate any of our amendments to add guardrails to the bill. It is truly unfortunate they feel the need to pass this off the house floor two days before the match for life. This legislation is already abhorrent and painful for so many of us but the fact that they choose to rush this through is a clear disregard for the beliefs of other Minnesotans.
Back in district we had a catastrophe this week at the Braham bus garage which burned down Tuesday morning. The building is considered a total loss along with three buses that were inside at the time. Thankfully none of the brave firefighters from Braham, Cambridge, and Mora were injured during the blaze. They do amazing work and while I know it will be a challenge with the lack of bus storage for the time being I?m certain we will make do.
