NCRC Statement On Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule

“The Fair Housing Act does more than prohibit and restrict discriminatory practices. It requires HUD and its funding recipients to be proactive in advancing fair housing and remedying segregation. The 2015 AFFH regulation was an important and meaningful step toward requiring recipients to take this obligation seriously – but was rescinded by Trump administration opponents of civil rights very shortly after it went into effect. REDLINED: KeyBank Failed Black America Despite Its Commitments To Improve

KeyBank disregarded commitments to improve lending to Black homeowners and potential homeowners. Federal data shows KeyBank now ranks at the bottom among the 50 largest mortgage lenders in the nation in the percentage of its borrowers who are Black, live in majority-minority or LMI neighborhoods and are people of color.
