US Reaches Debt Ceiling

National Review: The U.S. on Thursday hit the debt ceiling set by Congress, setting off a set of special measures from the Treasury Department to avoid default. Extraordinary measures include delaying some payments, including contributions to federal employees’ retirement plans, to free up funds for essential payments such as those for Social Security and debt instruments (National Review). Rep. Jim Jordan: Democrats: Want to raise the debt ceiling, Refuse to cut spending, Use the media to blame Republicans (Twitter). Fox News: Republicans have countered that there’s still time to negotiate a deal that allows for a debt ceiling hike and reduced spending. The Treasury Department has said it can hold out for several months before an increase is required, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has urged the White House to begin negotiations now (Fox News).

Supreme Court Announces Investigation into Dobbs Leak is Inconclusive
Quick reminder: this leak led to a failed assassination attempt of a Supreme Court judge. Washington Examiner: After nearly 11 months of an investigation into who leaked a draft decision signaling overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court announced Thursday its investigation is inconclusive. The court released a 20-page public copy of the investigation. Chief Justice John Roberts initially tapped the marshal of the Supreme Court to conduct the investigation (Washington Examiner). Spencer Brown: The Marshal’s report noted that “if a Court employee disclosed the draft opinion, that person brazenly violated a system that was built fundamentally on trust with limited safeguards to regulate and constrain access to very sensitive information,” and pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as contributing to an “expansion of the ability to work from home, as well as gaps in the Court’s security policies” that “created an environment where it was too easy to remove sensitive information from the building and the Court’s IT networks” (Townhall). Life News: The House Judiciary Committee intends to continue investigating the Supreme Court draft opinion leak that surrounded Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (Life News).

Russia Threatens Nuclear War if Ukraine War Does Not Go to Plan
Reuters: An ally of President Vladimir Putin warned NATO on Thursday that a defeat of Russia in Ukraine could trigger a nuclear war, while the head of the Russian Orthodox Church said the world would end if the West tried to destroy Russia. Such apocalyptic rhetoric is intended to deter the U.S.-led NATO military alliance from getting even more involved in the war, on the eve of a meeting of Ukraine’s allies to discuss sending Kyiv more weapons (Reuters).

FBI Offers $25,000 Reward for Leads on Attackers who Targeted Pro Life Clinics
It is about time they do something about the terrorist attacks. National Review: The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward to sources who can provide information about the suspects responsible for a spate of attacks on pro-life pregnancy resource centers. The bureau said in a news release it can investigate the crimes as potential acts of domestic violent extremism, Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act violations, or violent crime matters, depending on the facts of each case. The attacks occurred between March 2022 and July 2022 in eight different states (National Review). Life News: LifeNews recorded approximately 250 attacks within the past 12 months, or an average of four a week, that targeted pregnancy resource centers, churches, pro-life advocates and others (Life News).

50th Annual March for Life to Feature Former NFL Coach Tony Dungy
Washington Examiner: Retired NFL coach Tony Dungy, who sparred last year with Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) over the lawmaker’s claim he is a “pro-choice pastor,” will be one of the headliners at Friday’s 50th March For Life in Washington (Washington Examiner). Tony Dungy: Tomorrow Lauren and I will be in Washington DC attending the 2023 March For Life. It will be my first time at the March and I’m looking forward to joining my friend @BenjaminSWatson and thousands of others who will be there to support those unborn babies who don’t have a voice (Twitter). Life News: A strong majority of Americans support stronger pro-life laws. More than two-thirds of Americans (69%) would support ending all abortion no later than the first trimester, including nearly three out of four women (72%) and nearly half (49%) of all surveyed Democrats (Life News).

Amazon Closes Charity to Help with Lost Profits
Daily Wire: Amazon is shutting down its charity platform as part of the company’s recent cost-cutting efforts. The AmazonSmile program that allows customers to donate a percentage of their purchases through the company to selected non-profit organizations will end next month (Daily Wire). Washington Examiner: Amazon stock has been on a downward trend. By late fall, it had suffered a loss of $1 trillion in market capitalization from its all-time highs in 2021. The company is reconsidering several of its investments, including by cutting more than 18,000 jobs over several months (Washington Examiner).

Church of England to Uphold Traditional Marriage in Upcoming Synod
Fox News: Bishops in the Church of England are slated to uphold the institution’s formal teaching that marriage is between one man and one woman during their general synod in London next month. Bishops instead will offer proposals that urge “prayers of dedication, thanksgiving or for God’s blessing” on same-sex couples and offer an apology for the “rejection, exclusion and hostility” LGBTQI+ people have faced in the Church of England (Fox News). Dr. Rakib Ehsan: Glad to see the Church of England showing some spine and defending traditional values when it comes to the sacred institution of marriage (Twitter).

Netflix CEO to Step Down; Company Shares Fell 38 Percent Last Year
Financial Times: Reed Hastings is stepping down as chief executive of Netflix, the company he co-founded 25 years ago, in a shake-up at the top of one of the most powerful studios in Hollywood. Hastings, who launched Netflix in 1997 as a DVD-by-mail service, wrote in a blog post that he has been increasingly delegating management in recent years. Now is “the right time to complete my succession”, he added (Financial Times). Reuters: Shares of the company, which had fallen nearly 38% in the past year, rose 7.9% to $340.66 in after-hours trading (Reuters).

Washington Examiner: Jerseys for Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov have sold out online days after the 26-year-old refused to wear a gay pride-themed jersey for religious reasons. Alec Baldwin Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter After Accidental Shooting on Film Set
Fox News: Alec Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who was the armorer on the film “Rust,” was also charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Alec Baldwin’s attorney called the charges a “terrible miscarriage of justice” (Fox News).
