Adam Schiff for Congress

John, a panel of three federal judges just made a stunning ruling on South Carolina’s First Congressional District.

You have to read it for yourself:

“The movement of over 30,000 African Americans in a single county [Charleston County] from Congressional District No. 1 to Congressional District No. 6 created a stark racial gerrymander in Charleston County. The percentage of African Americans in Charleston County in Congressional District No. 1 fell from 19.8% at the time of the enactment of the 2011 plan to 10.3% in the 2022 plan.”

That’s right — Republicans openly violated the Voting Rights Act to help themselves and deny Black Charlestonians their Constitutional rights. This racial gerrymander potentially cost Democrats yet another seat in the House, and continued an ugly legacy of discrimination.

And with Kevin McCarthy and MAGA Republicans directing priorities in the House, the GOP is sure to take their strategy of Jim Crow 2.0 voter suppression from South Carolina across the country.

John, the Senate must oppose this effort and take action immediately to abolish the filibuster and pass voting rights legislation. Add your name to my petition calling on Senate Democrats to fight back against Republican efforts to disenfranchise the American people.

ADD YOUR NAME

Republicans are using the same strategy for voter suppression as they did for abortion bans — pass as many laws at the state level and appeal them up to the right-wing Supreme Court majority, where they could receive a favorable ruling.

The Supreme Court has already dramatically weakened the Voting Rights Act after 2013’s Shelby County v. Holder. Now, MAGA Republicans are looking for a knockout punch.

In any democracy, the voters should choose the politicians, not the politicians choosing the voters.

If you agree, add your name to my petition and join me in calling on Senate Democrats to abolish the filibuster and the gerrymander, and take up voting rights legislation immediately. Our democracy depends on it.

Thanks for raising your voice,

Adam
