John,
It’s hard to believe we are already well into 2023 and the 2024 election cycle. Our team is hitting the ground running this year — in huge part, thanks to all of you — our thousands of dedicated, grassroots supporters! It’s never too early to join us in the work ahead>>>
I can’t understate how proud we are of our 2022 accomplishments: We boosted voter registration, increased turnout across the state, and helped Democrats win up and down the ballot on November 8. Connecticut had a great night overall with so much to celebrate.
We won by large margins in high-profile races, holding every statewide office, all five congressional seats, and expanding our state house majorities. In fact, the Lamont/Bysiewicz ticket won 46 more towns than they did in 2018. Overall, Lamont expanded his 44,000-vote win of 2018 to a cushion of 158,000, or 12.5 percentage points this election. It’s clear that four years of fiscal stability and one of the largest tax cuts in history paid off.
And in our General Assembly, we retained a large majority in the House and obtained a supermajority in the Senate. We now have 98 House seats to their 53, and we have 24 Senate seats to their 12. Remember that just 4 years ago we had an evenly divided Senate — that is a remarkable achievement!
And although every Democratic win deserves celebrating, there are a few I wanted to highlight:
- Our own Erick Russell made national history by becoming the first Black openly LGBTQ+ candidate to be elected to statewide office in the country.
- Chris Poulos won the Southington House seat by ONE VOTE — it goes to show that every vote really does count.
- Rachel Khana flipped Republican Kim Fiorello’s seat by 210 votes.
- Hector Arzeno won the 151st Rep. seat in Greenwich, marking the first time a Democrat has ever held the seat.
- Martha Marx flipped District 20 — a Republican State Senate seat in southeastern Connecticut.
And I cannot say this enough: It’s all thanks to grassroots supporters like you — your support was crucial to every single win last year. But, as we all know, there is no time to rest — the work we do is too important.
We have important local elections right around the corner where we need to increase our majorities. We need to drive an enormous statewide voter registration program starting now.
And we need YOUR help to do it. It’s because we start early and keep up the pressure when it matters most that we make every election, every vote, and every dollar count. Can you chip in $5, $10, or even $25 to support the crucial work that lies ahead? We have to start right now, John.
Thank you for your continued support,
Nancy DiNardo
