[ [link removed] ]Katie Porter for Senate

I’m running to represent California in the United States Senate.

I got to say those words out loud, in public, for the very first time on
Tuesday night at our very first campaign event hosted by the Democrats of
Rossmoor Club in Walnut Creek.

It was so great to listen and learn from hundreds of East Bay voters. Here
are a few of the questions people asked:

What will happen to your congressional seat?

Democrats will win it. I first flipped the seat in 2018, but with your
help we have done the work in Orange County to change the political
environment. Democrats now outnumber Republicans, and I’m confident we’ll
hold this seat. At the same time, I will be in every part of California,
making sure we win seats that House Republicans narrowly won in November.
California can deliver the House majority for Democrats in 2024, and I’m
committed to making that happen.

Why do you think you’re the best candidate for the job?

I am in this race because I think it's time for a change. I think it is
time for a fresh new voice that understands the future that California
wants to build, and knows how to help us get there. We need someone who
will truly stand up to special interests and connect with the many people
who are disillusioned by politics.

Why don’t Democrats better explain the causes of inflation?

I can’t speak for every Democrat, but here’s my answer: We are the party
that will deliver a strong economy that works for working people. As
Democrats, we should be talking about the economy every day. We are the
party willing to hold global corporations to account for their greed and
their harm.

I did a whiteboard on this—I cited a study that shows 54% of the recent
price increases we've seen in the last couple years came from an increase
in corporate profits. There are a lot of investments we can make (and have
made) to lower inflation. We passed the CHIPS Act to invest in American
manufacturing and smooth out our supply chain. We still need to do serious
work to lower the costs of major expenses like child care. But until we
tell big corporations “you can’t cheat” we will never get a real,
long-term handle on inflation. We have to be willing to stand up to these
corporations, and that’s exactly what I’m willing to do.

I’m so excited to be in this race, and grateful to have you on our team.
Stay tuned for more updates.
