Some people confuse bad faith criticism with real life impact.
Here’s another question I got on Instagram the other day: “Does the Twitter discourse concerning you ever bum you out?”
I think sometimes it does.
But it’s not criticism that’s concerning — it's bad faith. And that really reveals itself in patterns over longer periods of time.
I think there’s a lot of people who sit in a lot of anger, frustration, and despair, and channel it into destructive energy – which I think is understandable. But I think there are people who confuse commenting online with actual, real-life organizing, impact, and work.
I also think that – and this is a hot take – some people want to be sold out. Because cynicism is a lot easier than hope in a difficult world where you are challenging power against all odds. It’s just easier to give up.
Take heart,
Alexandria
