If you are in Chicago tomorrow, join 350 Chicago at the Kluzcynski Federal Building at 12 PM for a photo op. We will live Tweet @POTUS with our photographs of us holding signs asking the President to declare a climate emergency and stop Line 5.
Good Afternoon Climate Activists,
Action:
Join 350 Chicago, tomorrow, Friday, January 20th at the Kluczynski Federal Building (230 S. Dearborn street) from 12 PM - 12:30 PM for a photo op and live tweeting @POTUS demanding the President Declare a Climate Emergency and Stop the Line 5 pipeline! Here is the RSVP Page for the Action.
Background:
In 2023, 350 Chicago will be participating in the People vs. Fossil Fuels action to push President Biden to declare a climate emergency! We are urging him to use the power of the executive branch to halt new fossil fuel projects and accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy.
On January 20th we will also honor the life and legacy of Joye Braun. Joye was a fierce defender of Indigenous sovereignty, human rights, and environmental and climate justice. She played an instrumental role in stopping the Keystone XL pipeline and led the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline. She elevated the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW), and more recently led the campaign to pressure President Biden to stop fossil fuel projects and declare a climate emergency. Here is a video about Joye's story.
We will also be highlighting the effort to stop the Line 5 pipeline reroute. Enbridge has proposed replacing the old underwater pipeline with a new version in the Straits of Mackinac. As we have recently seen in Kansas new pipelines leak. The drinking water of millions is at stake in the Great Lakes region. Line 5 needs to be shut down!
In honor of Joye’s life and legacy, contact the White House and demand Biden cancel Line 5 like he canceled KXL. And ask President Biden to declare a climate emergency. Contact the President at the White House Contact Page. Tweet the president at @POTUS as well.
