Dear Friend,

As a former prosecutor, public safety has always been a top priority for me. Michiganders deserve to feel safe as they go to work, drop their kids off at school, or run errands in their neighborhoods. That’s why since day one, I have made historic investments to promote public safety and stop violence in our communities.

Together, we have invested over $1 billion in public safety since I took office, sent local governments more resources than they have received in decades to hire and support law enforcement officers, increased secondary road patrols, and Operation Safe Neighborhoods [ [link removed] ] has successfully removed over 300 illegal guns off the streets. We’ve made great strides – but there is more work to do to reduce crime and gun violence.

Last year’s education budget included $460 million in school safety and mental health support. Districts have used these resources to make several school safety investments, including installing door security systems, allocating funding for School Resource Officers, forming a safety committee, and more.

As we get the ball rolling this year, I want to hear what a safe Michigan looks like to you and how investments in public safety would affect you and your loved ones. Please fill out this survey [ [link removed] ] and share your story.

You have the right to feel safe in your community and your children have the right to feel safe when they are at school. I will keep working with law enforcement officers and bipartisan state and local officials to continue investing in public safety, reduce crime, and prevent gun violence in Michigan. Let’s work together to keep Michiganders safe!

Sincerely,

Governor Whitmer
