Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants to raise taxes without a vote in Parliament.

------------------------------------------------------------

Hi John,

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants to raise taxes without a vote in Parliament. That’s wrong. And you need to stop it.

In this case, the taxes are already out of control.

Taxes account for about half the price of beer, 65 per cent of the price of wine and more than three quarters of the price of spirits.

Trudeau wants to hike federal alcohol taxes by 6.3 per cent in April without a vote in Parliament.

It’s important to fight undemocratic, automatic tax hikes no matter how you feel about alcohol.

If politicians want to raise taxes, then they should be forced to vote on the tax hike. But they aren’t voting on these tax increases. Every year the tax goes up with the rate of inflation. And there’s no vote in Parliament.

This sets a very dangerous precedent. Right now, politicians are raising alcohol taxes without a vote. If you don’t speak out, how long until politicians start raising other taxes without voting?

These tax hikes harm Canadian businesses and workers.

From 2017 to 2019, Trudeau’s beer taxes went up $34 million for large brewers in Canada. Meanwhile, these taxes went down $31 million in the United States.

“There’s a point where this business isn’t feasible to keep running or we pass all those costs back down,” said the owner of Dixon’s Distilled Spirits in Ontario.

New taxes aren’t the solution for the government’s money problems. The government needs to stop wasting money and focus on the important things. The Trudeau government could stop funding sex-toy shows in Germany and stop giving large corporations like the Ford Motor Company buckets of cash. Trudeau doesn’t need any more money from cash-strapped Canadians.

Thanks for fighting for taxpayers – it’s making a difference!

Sincerely,
