John, did you see the news this week?

While Governor Mills and other Democrats have announced plans to help Mainers seeking abortions due to extreme medical situations, Republicans responded with scorn. Just this month, GOP legislators filed nearly a dozen bills to restrict abortion access. These unpopular proposals include prohibiting abortions without parental consent, requiring counseling before abortions, and limiting access to abortion pills.

Even though the vast majority of Mainers support access to safe and legal abortions, extreme Republicans will stop at nothing to roll back our rights. [[link removed]]

Here’s what Maine’s Speaker of the House, Rachel Talbot Ross, had to say on the matter:

“The Dobbs decision and the rollback of our rights wasn’t just about abortion. The Supreme Court decided to advance the criminalization of our bodies — not just Democrats’ bodies, not Republican bodies, not just women’s bodies. This decision was an assault against all human beings and the ability to make personal, private decisions about our individual bodies.”

With Democratic majorities in the Maine State House and Senate, our rights are safe… for now. Support the Maine Democratic Party today to help us keep anti-abortion politicians out of office. [[link removed]]

This year would have been the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Instead, without the protection of the Roe precedent, our state’s laws are all that remain to protect abortion access. In a post-Roe world, we must stay vigilant – and ensure Mainers’ rights are never threatened.
