Now that Kevin McCarthy has become Speaker of the House after selling whatever shred of dignity he had left, more details of the devil's bargain he made to gain power are coming to light.

Notably, some of the most extreme and radical voices in the GOP have been assigned to the House Oversight Committee, a very important and powerful post: our own national embarrassment, Lauren Boebert; QAnon adherent Marjorie Taylor Greene; gleeful insurrectionist Paul Gosar (a man whose entire family publicly and vocally denounced him as unfit to be a Member of Congress); and Scott Perry, a man who requested a pardon from Trump following the January 6 riot and who had his phone confiscated by the FBI last year.

There should be no doubt about the Republican Party's inability and lack of desire to govern—whether it is the pointless brinksmanship relating to the debt limit, or the frivolous political "investigations" led by the architects of a failed coup. The frightening bottom line is this: Lauren Boebert is in charge of the circus now, and that can only mean bad things for the American people.
