Dear Friend,

This! There are times in our lives when a simple thank you can make a lasting difference and impression. One of those times is now.

From the first moment Nancy Pelosi became a member of Congress she’s been a force for women and families. During her historic four terms as the very first woman - and mother - to be the Speaker of the U.S. House, she has done more for our democracy, for our children, and for women than any Speaker before her. At every step of the way Speaker Pelosi has worked to lift up the voices and stories of women publicly. Behind the scenes she’s done even more - often sending personal and poignant thank you notes to MomsRising members who bravely shared their lived experiences in very public settings.

Very few leaders take the time to thank people, really thank them, and lift their stories and voices. Now that Speaker Emerita has stepped down from her leadership role (while continuing to represent her district in Congress), it’s our turn to thank her.

Speaker Pelosi has been a phenomenal, selfless leader for decades -- and now she has stepped down as Speaker of the U.S. House as she continues to represent her district.

Instrumental in dramatically increasing the number of women and people of color in Congress, she also put the interests of children and families first in everything she did. Her leadership helped get healthcare coverage to 31 million people through passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), expand the Child Tax Credit, protect SNAP, and so much more. She was a guiding light and an unstoppable force for justice, leading the country through the worst days of the Trump era. She also helped shape and pass the American Rescue Plan, to get families, businesses and our economy through the worst pandemic in 100 years. She fought every day for women’s rights, civil rights and human rights at home and abroad, against anti-LGBTQ+ and other forms of hate, and to protect women’s access to reproductive health care including abortion. She also led on the victory of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, led the fight to end Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and helped protect the climate. Speaker Pelosi has time and time again lifted our families, communities, economy, democracy, and country.

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – the first woman and mom to ever hold that position – has done more to lift our nation, protect our democracy, and boost our families than most people even imagine possible. Historians are already saying what we know to be true: Greatest, most effective, and most successful Speaker in our nation’s history. [1]
