Secular Coalition for America Announces Newest Member

The Secular Coalition for America (SCA) is proud to announce the newest member of our coalition - The Association of Secular Elected Officials (ASEO).

For over 20 years, SCA has provided advocacy and lobbying for our member organizations in Washington, DC. As the number of nonreligious individuals continues to grow, so too does our number of member organizations. ASEO gets us to 21 members.

ASEO supports the growing number nonreligious elected officials to be authentic about their beliefs and ethics and provide a forum for those officials to connect with each other for education, support and fellowship. We also work to encourage the larger secular community to be involved politically and run for office,” said Leonard Presberg, ASEO’s president.
.
“We are excited to join SCA and all its member organizations to make sure that not only the secular voice is heard by politicians, but that the politicians themselves are members of a community that knows the best public policy is made on the basis of science and reason that an individual’s religious belief is never a good reason for policy or law. The Secular Coalition of America works every day to make sure our voices are heard by our government and as government officials we know how important constituent voices are to the policy making process. As a member we can work to connect our secular politicians with organizations and constituencies that support them and their policy making efforts,” said Presberg.

The Secular Coalition for America advocates for religious freedom, as guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution, and works to defend the equal rights of nonreligious Americans. Representing 21 national secular organizations, hundreds of local secular communities, and working with our allies in the faith community, we combine the power of grassroots activism with professional lobbying to make an impact on the laws and policies that govern separation of religion and government — or the improper encroachment of either on the other.

“There are more publicly secular elected officials at the state level than ever before,” said SCA president Steven Emmert.  “Adding their association to SCA’s roster can only help in our advocacy efforts in Washington.”
