Libraries and rec centers are essential to every neighborhood

Helen Gym for Mayor

John — Everyone deserves safe public spaces they can rely on.

Libraries and recreation centers are essential to every neighborhood — offering safe havens for our youth and enriching the lives of the community members who enjoy them.

Yet here in Philadelphia, these neighborhood treasures have suffered greatly from years of disinvestment and understaffing. As a result, they’re often closed during nights and weekends – when our communities need these sacred public spaces the most.

That’ll change when Helen becomes Mayor. She has been very clear that she will make sure Philadelphia’s rec centers and libraries remain open and staffed on both evenings AND weekends.

Will you add your name to stand with Helen in support of keeping our libraries and rec centers open and fully staffed?

ADD MY NAME

Helen has always been a champion for our neighborhood rec centers and libraries. In her time on the City Council, Helen fiercely advocated to keep our libraries and rec centers open and funded — bringing over $13 million dollars to provide stable services to the communities that rely on them.

A well-resourced, robust library or rec center can be a true equalizer in a young person’s life. And by investing in them, we’re also advancing anti-violence initiatives, community health, lifelong learning, and so much more. These institutions truly are the civic heart of our city.

It’s time to put our young people first and invest in the public spaces that serve them.
