Dear John,

In 2020, I introduced the COMPACT Act to remove the financial barriers that prevent veterans from accessing lifesaving care during a mental health crisis. The COMPACT Act was signed into law later that year. As of January 17, veterans experiencing acute suicidal crisis will be able to receive emergency mental health care at VA or non-VA healthcare facilities at no cost. Veterans do not need to be enrolled in the VA system to use this benefit, either. Watch my remarks on the passage of the COMPACT Act to learn more about the benefits it may provide to you.
Other VA Mental Health Resources:

Please share these resources with veterans and servicemembers you know -- it could save a life.
Sincerely,

Mark Takano
Member of Congress
