John,
This Saturday marks the 13th anniversary of the disastrous Supreme Court Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission ruling, which allowed unlimited spending and dark money to influence and corrupt our elections.
John, wealthy corporations and dark money interests shouldn’t have this outsized influence in our elections.
Yet, since the 2010 decision, they've pumped billions of dollars into campaigns across the country to bend elections in their favor without having to disclose the identity of their donors.
The result of the Citizens United is clear: They’re afraid of the power of a true people-powered grassroots movement like ours. When the American people show up to exercise their right to elect leaders who have their interests in mind, billion-dollar corporations and dark money organizations ramp up their spending.
This unfettered spending by special interests and corporations has weakened our democracy by diluting the power of the people and the will of voters who make their voices heard at the ballot box.
But those who act to defend our democracy — activists, advocates, community leaders, families and individuals like you — have shown time and again that when we show up in numbers, we win. Case in point: our votes reduced the GOP’s supposed “red tsunami” to barely a ripple in the 2022 midterms.
While some politicians take dark money to bolster their campaigns, ours has always been powered by people like you, giving what you can, when you can — because Lauren remains committed to running this campaign the right way.
We count on this grassroots team to help us send a strong message that our people-powered movement is here to defend our democracy at all costs and put political power back into the hands of the people. John, will you chip in $5 or any amount you can today to help shore up our grassroots campaign? Every dollar goes a long way toward supporting our fight.
Knowing that we can rely on your support to ensure our campaign has the resources to fuel our work means so much to Lauren. Thank you for standing with us.
