It took over a dozen votes for Kevin McCarthy to finally become Speaker, but he earned this new position by giving the most extreme members of his party exactly what they want. We're now entering an era in which a few extremists have an outlandish amount of power in the House.

They wasted no time getting to pushing their extreme agenda.

The newly Republican-controlled House kicked off its session with a series of votes including two anti-abortion measures, which will surely fail in the Senate. However, this is a look at what is to come in the next few weeks and months as the Republican party goes against the will of voters who, by a vast majority, support abortion.

We knew this was coming, and now, it is playing out before us. House Republicans, and Kevin McCarthy in particular, have learned nothing from voters wholeheartedly rejecting their so-called “red wave” in 2022.

As one of the few frontline races that Republicans fought hard trying to flip, we need to begin preparing for 2024 now. Two years of this dysfunction, extremism, and blatant disregard for the will of the American people are more than enough. We MUST flip the House back to blue in 2024, and CT-05 will no doubt be one of the closest races in the country once again.
