January 2020

Dear John,

Why do you love rivers? Is it because you’re grateful for the life they give – from the water you drink to the food you eat? It is because you care about the fish, birds and wildlife that call them home? Maybe it’s because rivers give you a special way to connect with nature?

Our supporter Roderick Becker tells us, “I find grace, joy and a strong spiritual connection in the desert and the mountains, the plains and the forests, the sky and the oceans. But I have found the strongest connection occurs when I am paddling on a free-flowing river.”

It’s true, rivers hold a special kind of magic. And that’s why we work every day to protect them. Whatever your reason, we’re grateful you’re standing with us as we begin this new year. We need rivers, and rivers need us. Let’s make 2020 a great one for the rivers we love.

For the rivers,

Federal policy: a look back at 2019 and what's coming in 2020

We spent much of  2019 in our nation's capital defending against regulatory rollbacks, and 2020 will have its own battles over Clean Water Act provisions. But it’s not all bad news. Learn what will be this year’s opportunities to protect rivers. Read More...

Rivers grow your food
People who do the hard and beautiful work of growing food are some of the first to imagine what a new relationship to our food, and the water and rivers we need to grow it, might look like. Our collection of films celebrates the importance of rivers to the food we eat.

New video: Freeing rivers
Our dam removal and river restoration work is featured in this new video by WWF and the World Economic Forum. Find out why removing dams is such a powerful way to bring life back to rivers, ecosystems and communities.

A victory for the #1
America's Most Endangered River® of 2019 ended the year on a high note. The Gila River in New Mexico moved one big step closer to safety.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to Nite Ize for its support of our work to protect and restore America’s rivers.
