Stand with La Puya

Hi John,

Guatemalan communities report that the U.S. owned El Tambor gold mine will poison their water and put their health at risk. This is unacceptable. The open-pit gold mine was suspended in 2016 over the lack of consultation.

Guatemalans are asking the government to conduct a consultation that respects community self-determination and ensures their full, free and safe participation. Stand with Peaceful Resistance La Puya today.

Guatemalan authorities are repeating the mistakes of the past and trying to exclude the most impacted communities from the decision-making process.

Despite violent repression and unfounded legal attacks, the Peaceful Resistance La Puya has successfully defended their homeland for more than a decade, maintaining an around-the-clock resistance camp outside the mine. Today, the communities of La Puya face a new wave of threats and intimidation tactics aimed at limiting their participation.

Demand that the Guatemalan government ensure the full and safe participation of the communities most impacted by the mine.

In Solidarity,

Ellen Moore,
