“To better understand which candidates did well or poorly Tuesday night, we plotted how favorably respondents rated the candidates before the debate vs. how debate-watchers rated candidates’ performances afterward — and Elizabeth Warren, in particular, seemed to have a breakout evening according to this metric. She not only received the highest marks for her debate performance, but her scores were high even relative to her pre-debate favorability rating.

That said, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg and Joe Biden also received medium-to-high marks for their performances, but because of their relatively high pre-debate favorability ratings, we expected a lot of voters to already be predisposed to viewing their debate performances in a positive light. So while they still did pretty well on the debate stage, they didn’t exceed expectations the way Warren did. Democrats

• The New York Times published a series of interviews with nine presidential candidates ahead of its Jan. 19 endorsement.

• The Iowa Democratic Party will release three election results following the Feb. 3 caucuses: the number of delegates each candidate received, the first vote of caucusgoers, and the final vote that features only viable candidates who crossed the 15 percent threshold after caucusgoers realigned their votes in the caucus process. In the past, only the delegate totals were made public.

• Michael Bennet will speak at an immigration event in Concord, New Hampshire, on Saturday.

• Joe Biden launched a new outreach program on historically black college campuses. In an interview on Wednesday with NBC 5 and Dallas Morning News, Biden discussed flipping Texas. 

• Michael Bloomberg will hold Climate Week events in California on Friday. On Wednesday, Bloomberg launched his “Women for Mike” outreach program and appeared on The View.

• Pete Buttigieg will hold a town hall in Concord, New Hampshire, on Friday. Rep. Annie Kuster (N.H.) endorsed Buttigieg on Wednesday.

• John Delaney will host an event with voters in Carroll, Iowa, on Friday.

• Tulsi Gabbard is holding a town hall in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Thursday.

• Amy Klobuchar will host a rally with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. Tina Smith in Minneapolis on Friday.

• Deval Patrick will participate in an education roundtable in Las Vegas on Friday.

• Bernie Sanders will host a rally with Rep. Ilhan Omar in Minneapolis on Friday. Immigrant activist group Make the Road endorsed Sanders.

Republicans

• Former Fox News anchor Kimberly Guilfoyle will serve as the national finance chairwoman of the Trump Victory Finance Committee for Donald Trump. The U.S. House delivered two articles of impeachment against Trump to the U.S. Senate on Wednesday.

• Joe Walsh is holding an event at the Republican National Committee’s headquarters on Thursday to demand a meeting with party Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
