John,
Americans must pay taxes and serve on juries. So what if they were asked — or required — to vote?
That’s the question Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne Jr. and Miles Rapoport, Executive Director of 100% Democracy and Harvard Kennedy School Fellow, are asking in their book, “100% Democracy: The Case for Universal Voting.”
Issue One is hosting a conversation with the authors about their paradigm-shifting argument that all members of a democracy must participate in elections (as they do, for example in Australia ). The book has sparked discussions in the democracy reform community and the authors will make their case for how this measure could reinvigorate our politics, and answer your questions.
During an exclusive hour-long call, I’ll be chatting with the authors about why they chose universal voting as a fundamental reform to promote and how we can improve our democracy.
Register now and join us at 1pm ET on Tuesday, January 24 for this discussion.
Hope to see you there,
Ethan Rome Chief of Strategy and Program
P.S. While this issue doesn’t represent our organization’s stance, this conversation is part of our ongoing efforts to lift up interesting ideas and thinkers within the broader democracy reform community.
