PAC Awards of Excellence Program Call For Nominations 2023

The Paramedic Association of Canada has developed an awards program to recognize exceptional Canadian paramedics and paramedic supporters at the national level. These awards presentation will be held during the Paramedics on the Hill event, planned to be held in the Spring of 2023.
Please consider nominating exceptional paramedics and paramedic allies by completing a nomination package and submit it via email to [email protected]. Nominations will be accepted until Jan. 31, 2023.

For many paramedics it’s evocative of days gone by; the phrases “You call, we haul” and “ambulance driver” echo in this image, demonstrative of antiquated stereotypes that bear no resemblance to the dedicated clinicians that paramedics are today.

B.C. paramedic didn't steal medication or health card, tribunal rules

B.C.’s Civil Resolution Tribunal has dismissed a small claims action against BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) from a person who alleged a paramedic stole their medication and provincial health card.
The allegations stem from October 2021, when Richard Greenlaw was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Dispatch system not the cause of long ambulance wait times, province says

The provincial government released an overview of two reports looking into Alberta's troubled EMS system, including a review of ambulance dispatch.
Health Minister Jason Copping, Alberta Health Services (AHS) interim president Mauro Chies, and EMS reform parliamentary secretary RJ Sigurdson made the announcement recently.

BRFA and union for Bonnyville paramedics ratify new agreement

It took just four and a half days for Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) management and board members to reach an agreement with the Bonnyville paramedics’ union, Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA).
All EMS workers in the province are represented by HSAA.

Alberta EMS report recommends steps toward privatization, critics say

The Alberta government is looking to free up EMS crews for emergencies by contracting out non-emergency patient transfers between facilities to private third-party companies.
The measure is one of 53 recommendations in the Alberta EMS Provincial Advisory Committee's final report, which was released recently by Health Minister Jason Copping.

Report: Fan in critical condition after medical emergency at AHL game

An American Hockey League game between the Toronto Marlies and Manitoba Moose was suspended after a fan had a medical emergency during the first intermission.
According to the Toronto Star, paramedics performed CPR on a woman at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto and transported her to the hospital in critical condition.

Data shows scope of unfilled paramedic shifts in Edmonton last year

Tens of thousands of ambulance shifts were left unfilled in Edmonton last year, according to new data shedding light on the scope of EMS worker shortages in the city. The Alberta NDP released vacancy numbers they obtained through a Freedom of Information request recently, totalling up the number of times EMS shifts couldn’t be staffed from January to October of 2022.
