Team, we made significant progress on climate and the environment in 2022. I recently became a grandfather, and I’m spending a lot of time these days thinking about what kind of planet we are leaving for the next generation. If you’d asked me a couple years ago what the United States was doing about climate change, frankly I wouldn’t have had much to say. But in just the past couple years, under Democratic leadership, we’ve made some important strides.
First, we passed a historic infrastructure package to rebuild our roads and bridges, upgrade our power structure, invest in public transit and clean energy, eliminate lead pipes, and work to make our communities more resilient to the impacts of climate change. I was proud to be a key negotiator of this game-changing legislation and get it over the finish line in the Senate. And already, we are seeing historic green investments being made across Virginia – from public transit, to electric vehicle charging, to coastal resilience.
But we didn’t stop there. I worked hard with my colleagues to pass the Inflation Reduction Act which, simply put, is the largest climate change legislation in American history. Along with measures to cut health care and energy costs for working families, the bill made a dramatic investment in fighting climate change and protecting our planet for future generations. Over the next few years, we are going to see these investments pay off in the form of new greener energy sources, more electric vehicles, and the growth of a green economy.
I am committed to continuing this kind of progress because our environment, our economy, our families, and our future all depend on it. Will you consider making a donation now to keep our Senate majority so we can keep up the fight on climate? Anything you can give before the midnight mid-month deadline makes a difference. The truth is, we are fighting for the future of our planet and the future we leave to our kids and grandkids. Between these historic bills, and President Biden’s decision to re-enter the Paris agreement, we are making progress. But we know there is so much more work that must be done. It’s my commitment to you that I’m going to keep fighting in the Senate to make sure we respond to the threat of climate change and do right by future generations.
Thank you,
Mark Warner
