From the beginning, TPL has done things a little differently. We catalyzed a unique style of land conservation that puts people at the center of our mission. That makes all the difference.

Ensuring access to beloved parts of Zion National Park certainly rises to the top of things we're proud of achieving in our first 50 years. We’ve worked to protect special places like the Zion Narrows Trail, Kolob Terrace, Tabernacle Dome, and more. As the second most visited national park in the U.S., we're honored to have played a role in its preservation.

The forgotten Rockaway Beach rail line once ferried people across Jamaica Bay to the Rockaway Peninsula. The tracks have sat silent for nearly six decades, but Mayor Eric Adams recently announced a historic investment to turn the railway into a new trail.

Whether camping under a starry summer night sky or cross-country skiing on exceptional trails during the winter, Tahoe National Forest is one of the most popular recreational forests in the United States. The now-protected 760-acre Huysink Lake offers a less challenging and less crowded alternative for users to access the popular Loch Leven and Salmon Lakes hiking areas.

Public lands sustain us. And it’s up to us to sustain them. Start 2023 off by protecting public lands for future generations and creating parks where they’re needed most. Your support is critical to permanently protecting one million acres of land and 1,000 miles of rivers and streams, creating 35 new high-quality parks, and connecting 1,000 miles of trails by 2025.

With a new Congress in session, special interests and the powerful politicians who support them are always working to convert public lands and resources to private profit. Please help show widespread support for parks and public lands by telling your members of Congress that you want to protect public lands from exploitation.

In 2023, we reflect on and celebrate our first 50 years of impact, and we look ahead at the work still to be done. From protecting vast stretches of wide-open spaces to revamping schoolyards, trails and parks, we strive for equity, inclusion, and access for everyone.
