On Sunday, a gunman walked into the Gilroy Garlic Festival in San Jose and opened fire. We lost three young people -- including a six-year-old -- and dozens injured remain traumatized.

Yesterday, I met with a 12-year-old who was shot while in a bounce house. A grandmother mourning the loss of her 6-year-old son. Families and friends left their homes for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon and instead faced an unspeakable mass shooting and lost their loved ones.

The Gilroy shooting is gut-wrenching. It cuts deep. I am hurt. I am angry. I am still reeling from this tragic moment.

That's our unfortunate reality of living in America, but it doesn't have to be. Gun violence is so prevalent in our everyday lives that many folks have already moved on from this horrifying shooting. The epidemic is so widespread it isn't a matter of if the next shooting will happen, but when it will touch our lives.

So what do we do next?

We will push forward. We will fight for safer communities. We will raise our voices for the victims. We will demand action to end the gun violence crisis. Because I refuse to stand idly by. I refuse to allow the NRA to win. We can and must press on.
