Dear Friend,
I am happy to announce that I will continue to serve on the House Committee on Homeland Security (CHS). We are facing significant national security challenges in the United States. A porous southwest border, China’s Tik-Tok surveillance, and a lack of oversight of the Department of Homeland Security were allowed to go unanswered under a Democrat-led House of Representatives and White House. That will change under the new Republican majority, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue my service on the Homeland Security Committee to create the necessary legislation and oversight to address the issues that have been allowed to gain traction under the Biden Administration.
During my time on CHS, I have introduced legislation that is critical to addressing the border crisis and its impacts, including the END FENTANYL Act, the Combatting International Drug Trafficking and Human Smuggling Partnership Act of 2022, and the Border Enforcement Security Task Force Act. These are important first steps to secure our border, and this type of legislation is what the new Republican majority will focus on in the 118th Congress.
We also plan to hold Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas accountable for his continued inaction to secure our border. Secretary Mayorkas has testified twice before CHS, stating that he believes the border is secure. The numbers do not support his claims, as I told him in his latest testimony. The Committee will work to uncover how Secretary Mayorkas and the Biden Administration allowed such a disastrous crisis to develop on our border.
I also look forward to working closely with our new Chairman of the Committee, Mark Green (R-TN) — a strong leader, a fellow native Mississippian from Monticello, and the leader of my Bible study group in Congress. As a retired U.S. Army major, Chairman Green will approach our homeland security issues pragmatically as we work in our shared goal to secure our border and defend our homeland from foreign threats. I look forward to working closely with him and appreciate the kind statement he made about my return to CHS:
"I am thrilled to have Congressman Guest return to the Committee on Homeland Security for the 118th Congress. He has established a strong legacy as leader on the most pressing issues facing our homeland security from the threat that China poses to pushing back on the Biden administration’s failed border security policies. I am honored to work alongside Congressman Guest and look forward to leveraging his leadership in delivering on our commitment to America."
-Chairman Mark Green
Moving to New Locations
Over the last month, my office in Washington, D.C., has been settling into a new space in the Cannon House Office Building. This week, we also moved to a new office in Meridian, Mississippi, near the center of town that offers ease of access to constituents living in East Mississippi. We also recently moved to a new location in Starkville, Mississippi, to help serve the northeast part of the district. These moves are part of an effort to make my office more open and accommodating to the people of Mississippi. If you are in Mississippi and need help with a federal agency, I encourage you to contact one of my local offices below. If you are planning a visit to Washington, D.C., be sure to let us know by contacting my Washington office. The phone numbers and new locations can be found at the bottom of this email. We look forward to visiting with you in person.
