Dear John,
Over the weekend, this country witnessed at least four separate mass shootings.
San Fernando Valley, California
Old Timers Day in Brooklyn, New York
A Music Production Company in Southwest Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Gilroy Garlic Festival in Gilroy, California
A total of nine people killed and 30 injured.
We're tired. We're tired of the mass shootings, firearm suicide, domestic violence, and everyday community-wide gun violence that never makes the news. We're tired of guns killing over 100 Americans every single day. We're tired of our lawmakers allowing this public health crisis to persist with their inaction.
The 19-year-old who took three innocent lives at the Gilroy Garlic Festival legally purchased his weapon -- an AK-47-type rifle -- in Nevada earlier this July. With stronger gun laws, this tragedy could have been prevented.
The Senate Bill 1395 Age 21 Act ([link removed]) is a federal bill that, if enacted, would prohibit the purchase of these types of firearms by individuals under the age of 21. This type of legislation has the power to save lives. Right now, the bill only has three cosponsors -- it's time for you to take action!
Call your Senator today ([link removed]) and tell them that they need to support this bill! Tell them that American lives depend on it, and you're expecting them to do the right thing.
At the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), we are working every day to develop and advocate for evidence-based solutions that will reduce gun injury and death in all its forms. We hope you will stand with us as we ask our lawmakers to create change and protect American lives.
Thank you,
Josh Horwitz
