John -
Thank you to everyone who participated in events in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this past Monday. Several of us had the opportunity to attend the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Beloved Community Celebration put on by the Arlington Coalition of Black Clergy at Mount Olive Baptist Church.
The guest speakers for the Beloved Community Panel had a diverse array of perspectives and insights. It was great to see NAACP Arlington President, Arlington County Housing Commissioner, Arlington Dems Deputy Chair and fellow AYD Mike Hemminger offer his thoughts from a housing perspective in the discussion.
The celebration program that followed with keynote speaker Dr. Otis Moss, Jr., a pastor and activist well known for his involvement in the Civil Rights Movement and friendship with Martin Luther King Jr., was awe-inspiring and we are so grateful that we had the opportunity to hear from him.
We are thankful for this opportunity to listen and learn and extend our gratitude to Arlington Coalition of Black Clergy for hosting this incredible event.
If you missed the event, you can watch the recorded livestream here.
Reminder that our New Year Happy Hour is tonight at 7pm at Spider Kelly's in Clarendon. It's right by the Clarendon Metro Station and there is some street parking available nearby. We will be in the raised section towards the back of the bar.
In addition, we hope you will join us next Thursday, January 26th at 6:30pm in the Central Library Auditorium for our caucus reorganization meeting. For more information, check out the event block below.
Finally, it's time to vote in the AYD Awards! You will have until Sunday, January 22nd at 11:59pm to vote and awards will be presented next week at the caucus reorganization meeting.
