January 2023:  Join Our Town Hall Tomorrow

Dear friend,

Tomorrow at 6pm, I will be hosting an in-person town hall in Brooklyn Center. I will discuss the $24.7 million we advanced for the district in community project funding and the start of the new Congress. You can register here.

Securing Over $24 million for the 5th District

At the end of last year, I secured over $24 million in Community Project Funding that I know meets long overdue community needs in Minnesota’s 5th District and builds on our previous success delivering $17 million to the district. These include investments in housing, healthcare, food access, the environment and community space. They were achieved with input from constituents throughout the Fifth District, built on a model of co-governance. The investments create Minnesota jobs with better pay, make us safer, strengthen our communities, and help to tackle climate change. You can read more here

Extending TPS for Somali TPS holders

Image

The Biden Administration just announced the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somali TPS holders. Last month, I joined my colleagues urging the Administration to extend TPS. I am grateful that the Biden Administration has listened to advocates and lawmakers like myself who advocated for this. I will continue to fight for a permanent solution that provides a pathway to citizenship for all those seeking a better life in the United States of America. You can read my full statement here

Condemning Recent Efforts to Overturn Elections in Brazil and the U.S.

Image
I led over 70 public officials from both the United States and Brazil in a joint statement condemning the recent insurrections in both of our countries and the coordination between far-right agitators. As policymakers, we stand united against the efforts by authoritarian, anti-democratic far-right actors to overturn legitimate election results and overthrow our democracies, including the recent January 8, 2023, attacks on the Brazilian presidential palace, Congress and Supreme Court as well as the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Democracies rely on the peaceful transfer of power. You can read more here.
