Governor Katie Hobbs just released her first budget to build an Arizona for everyone.
It finally invests in public education, makes an effort to solve our housing crisis, and tries to help all communities build a better Arizona.
In a matter of hours, the AZ GOP that barely controls the state legislature was already calling the budget “dead on arrival.” They won’t even consider respecting the voters’ wishes to build a better Arizona for everyone.
Team, after our big wins in 2022, we’re laser-focused on making sure we flip the Arizona legislature as soon as possible, and getting Governor Hobbs the support she needs. We need to build up our resources to keep GOP legislators honest, and be ready if a recall seems possible. Despite Arizona voters selecting a Democratic trifecta (Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General) for the first time in decades, the GOP still narrowly holds control of the state legislature – just one seat in each chamber.
Despite this narrow majority, the AZ GOP has started the legislative session attacking Gov. Hobbs’ efforts to protect LGBTQ Arizonans, turned their backs on supporting reproductive rights, and now they are calling investments in schools, “dead on arrival.”
We’re so close to getting Arizona to be completely blue by flipping the state legislature. We need to keep pressure on every single Republican legislator to support Governor Hobbs’ agenda for a better Arizona – and if they don’t, we need to create pressure in their districts to change their minds.
The AZ GOP is already threatening recalls for Republican legislators who don’t stay in line — so we need to be ready if an opportunity to flip a seat comes up as well.
