John -
A new Congress was sworn in this month and with it comes the chance to pass a bipartisan resolution standing with the people of Iran.
If you’re skeptical that Congress can do something appropriate and meaningful on Iran, I don’t blame you. Far too often, bipartisan groups in Congress have only come together on Iran to support collective punishment that harms the people and allows the regime to further entrench itself. We expect many of these proposals to be put forward later this year, and will be on guard.
However, the first resolution on Iran introduced this year is a good and meaningful proposal. The resolution - H.Con.Res. 7 - credibly condemns the many abuses of Iran’s government and expresses support for the people of Iran. Beyond rhetoric, it encourages the Biden administration to impose more targeted human rights sanctions on those perpetrating abuses against the women and youth of Iran. And, critically, it would relieve pressure and combat the isolation of Iranians by encouraging steps to advance internet freedom.
When a bipartisan group in Congress strikes the right balance, including in a critical moment like we face today, it is important that our community step up and support it.
John, we need your help to mobilize our community to support H.Con.Res. 7. Will you sign our alert today? [[link removed]]

Last Congress, a similar resolution made it through committee but ran out of time to be considered on the floor of the House and Senate. However, with support from our community, H.Con.Res. 7 can move swiftly toward passage. Can you take 2 minutes to message your legislators today? [[link removed]]
