Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well! I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on several happenings in the district as well as Harrisburg.

Special Elections Update

On Friday, January 13th, the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court ruled that the special elections to fill 3 vacated House seats in the 32nd, 34th, and 35th Legislative Districts will be held on February 7th, 2023. For weeks, the date of these special elections, and who could determine when they would occur, were the subjects of much heated debate in Harrisburg and is why the court stepped in to facilitate a result. 

Holding the three special elections in February and not waiting for the May Primary not only allows for a fully functioning House of Representatives as soon as possible but more importantly ensures that voters in Allegheny County have a voice in Harrisburg as soon as possible. This was good news for all of Pennsylvania. I look forward to meeting my new colleagues, whoever they may be, and continuing the people's work in the Capitol. 

Congratulations Gov. Josh Shapiro & Lt. Gov. Austin Davis

Yesterday, Tuesday, January 17th, Pennsylvania's Governor Josh Shapiro and Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis were sworn in as the duly elected heads of Pennsylvania. My colleagues and I gathered on the steps of the Capitol Building to watch this historic event and congratulate Shapiro and Davis on their achievements. 

I would also like to thank Governor Tom Wolf for his leadership over the past eight years and his steadfast belief in the power of the people of Pennsylvania. 

This is a new chapter for our Commonwealth and I'm excited to see what it brings.

Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship Program

The 2023 PA House of Representatives Scholarship Program is now available for graduating high school seniors to apply. The program enhances educational opportunities for graduating high school seniors who reside in the Commonwealth and is administered through the Foundation for Enhancing Communities. It provides four-year scholarships to two high school seniors and is used toward the cost of tuition and fees for a four-year program at a college, university, or career school in Pennsylvania.

Eligibility criteria includes:

-Graduating high school senior

-Legal Residency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

-Attendance at a PA college, university, or career school as a full-time student

-Academic achievement (minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA)

-Commitment to community and leadership qualities

-Extracurricular activities

-Financial need
