Friend,
I’d like to tell you about a recent trip I made to Kenya. A special time which reflects the valuable impact our community had on children’s lives in the past year.
I visited Kenya’s Turkana County, where historic widespread drought is plaguing communities. The number of children facing severe acute malnutrition keeps climbing — just one of the many effects of climate-induced crises hitting children around the world. Looking around these small, remote communities in Kenya, I could feel the massive weight of these compounding crises and how they could limit children's futures.
But I could also feel the hope there. I felt it through the interactions I had with the resilient, hard-working, entrepreneurial Kenyans who are caring for their children in the face of some of the world's toughest obstacles. Their immediate needs are clear — safe water, nutrition and emergency relief — and UNICEF is in a position to help.
What is happening to families in Kenya is repeated in communities across the Horn of Africa and beyond. Still, stories of hope and resilience are found in so many of the places UNICEF works in. Thanks to people like you, UNICEF is reaching these communities with critical relief. While we have more work to do, I hope you feel inspired by the impact we’ve made. |
Your commitment to helping children advanced UNICEF’s efforts to make achievements like these possible. From Afghanistan to Somalia, from Ukraine to Yemen — your support makes a difference as UNICEF remains on the ground providing children with lifesaving services and care.
It is people like you who give me hope too, Friend. As we enter 2023 I want to know, how are you feeling? Are you as optimistic as I am about improving children’s lives in the year ahead? |
With your continued support, I’m confident that we will create a more hopeful and better future for every child. I look forward to sustaining our progress and sharing more about the impact we’re making for children.
For now, take a closer look at some of the accomplishments we helped make possible in the past year
Thank you for your steadfast commitment to children,
