Last Thursday, devastating tornadoes touched down across Alabama, killing nine people and destroying entire communities. These storms had the worst impact on rural towns that will need long term investment to recover. As an Alabama resident, I want to do all that I can to help our neighbors facing unspeakable loss. Last year, Groundwork invested in Alabama organizers working to stand up community protection teams in counties that face frequent natural disasters as a result of the climate crisis. They know these storms are coming, so they work around the clock to build mutual aid networks. These strong bonds between neighbors mean that during a crisis, residents spring into action to help each other with immediate needs like food, water, and shelter. These protection teams also translate into political power to win policies that advance climate justice.

Folks across the state need your support as they begin the long process of clearing the wreckage, counting loss, and beginning to heal. Groundwork Project’s infrastructure allows us to honor our mission in moments of crisis and take an active role in working with our partners to ensure we have up-to-date actions and news.
