ACLU Supporter – We need to talk about the state legislatures – and our rights at stake right now. For the past several years now, it is within these state legislative sessions – slowly but surely – that our constitutional freedoms have been systematically chipped away across the country. This year – without the protections of Roe v. Wade in place and public officials determined to target the rights and health of trans people – we're sure to see even more attacks crop up in the form of cruel state bills. And this won't stop with abortion and gender-affirming care. Those same politicians seeking to control the bodies of pregnant people and erase our trans communities are coming for our right to access birth control, to marry whom we love, to learn about our country's true history, and even to vote. This fight is for everyone's rights – and the ACLU will never back down from it. We'll be clear: We have legal, advocacy, and organizing teams on the ground in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico, and we are mobilizing a whole-of-organization response to these attacks across the country. But we need the full force of our dedicated community speaking out with us, and that's why we want to equip you with the facts around this quickly-evolving, nationwide moment: Dive into our explainer piece today to learn more on the intertwined future of attacks on abortion and gender-affirming care in state legislatures this year – and we'll be back in your inbox this week with more ways to take action. Thank you, The ACLU Team |
