Update on The Williams Fight
Any day now we could hear if the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation will block the Williams pipeline for good. Until then we are keeping up the pressure on Governor Cuomo, letting him know that the opposition to this proposed fracked gas behemoth is staying strong.
Can you help send him the message? We’ve got two rallies coming up and we want lots of people to show up so he can hear us loud and clear!

Meanwhile, Williams and National Grid have gotten development and finance interests to “write” op-eds supporting the pipeline.

July Meeting Report Back
Forty 350Brooklyners gathered at Brooklyn Commons on July 11 for a working meeting to talk about what has made our recent campaigns successful, what we can do better, and what's next.
First a panel of members who have worked on four of our campaigns—the Plastics Campaign, the Dirty Buildings Campaign, Stop the Williams Pipeline, and passing the Climate and Community Protection Act—offered some analysis of these campaigns. Among the reasons for recent successes that they gave were strong coalitions, the research 350Brooklyn members did to ground campaigns in accurate knowledge, and the widespread participation of 350Brooklyn members that helped persuade elected officials. Panelists identified the need for more understanding of legislative processes and for more money as we go forward.
The meeting then broke up into groups to work on further development of key campaigns we expect for the fall: Plastics, the Library Series, City Action (the new name of the Dirty Buildings group), and the Gowanus campaign.
It's August and So We Chill
August 8, 7:30 pm
Der Stammkneipe, 710 Fulton Street
In August, 350Brooklyn’s monthly meeting goes on hiatus. Does this then leave a hole in your calendar on the second Thursday of August? Come by Der Stammkneipe, a beer garden in Fort Greene to lift a glass, have a nosh, and chat with 350Brooklyn friends. We’ll be there! 7:30 on August 8 at 710 Fulton Street.
Looking Forward to Fall
With September’s arrival, we’ll see a surge in actions involving the climate movement in New York City. Here are just a few:
- On September 4, CNN will host a climate debate among the Democratic candidates in NYC.
- September 8: 350Brooklyn’s monthly meeting
- September 18: the first of our Brooklyn Public Library Series, Climate Wednesdays: Solutions for a Cooler Brooklyn
- September 20: International Youth Strike
- September 23: UN Climate Summit - A major city-wide action is planned to accompany this. We'll send updates as they are available
And much more is in the works! So stay tuned!
