The Inescapable Prison of Barrio 18 in Honduras

#Barrio18
Dear Subscriber,

InSight Crime is pleased to present its latest investigation, The Inescapable Prison of Barrio 18 in Honduras.”
This tells the story of "Desafio," a Barrio 18 gang member in Honduras, who spent most of his life working on the periphery of the criminal group. After almost a decade of trying, he was finally allowed to become a fully-fledged gang member, known as a homeboy, in 2020. He didn’t enjoy it for long. He was captured by police the following year and imprisoned in El Pozo, one of Honduras’ most notorious prisons.

Shortly after being jailed, Desafio decided he wanted to leave the gang. But Barrio 18 has little patience for deserters.

Desafio had to fight for his life and his freedom while serving his sentence.
