John, in Florida, Missouri, and Ohio, MAGA-Republicans are seeking to restrict the way citizens of those states engage in direct democracy.
Ballot measures and initiatives are carried out in different ways in every state. Some are used as changes to state constitutions, while others are used to address issues facing local areas. However, some states like those listed above want to ensure that changes brought forth by citizens require more than a 60% vote - well over the threshold for some current laws.
Ballot measures have increasingly been utilized to open up voting on progressive issues like Medicaid expansion, cannabis legalization, and abortion access. The MAGA-GOP would, of course, prefer that these decisions are left up to legislative sessions and the GOP majority that has gerrymandered its way into State and U.S. positions.
John, we believe in the power of direct democracy and believe that the will of the voters should be the law of the land. Overwhelmingly, people tend to agree more on these pressing issues than the GOP-approved laws would have us believe.
We're working on putting issues to direct vote in all three of these states and we can't let MAGA Republicans shut us down! Please chip in and fight back now!
Thank you for supporting our efforts to make sure those in rural America have a say in what they want for their states and a choice for positive changes in their lives.
