Channel4 announces that their upcoming Paralympics 2020 programming will be sponsored by BP

Hi John,

Just one month ago, Channel 4 broadcast the first ever climate debate ahead of the UK General Election – doing great work bringing the climate crisis to the forefront of the political agenda.

But now they’ve announced that their upcoming Paralympics 2020 programming will be sponsored by the fossil fuel giant BP. This means a top polluter’s logo will be all over this important event in the global sporting calendar.

Accepting BP’s sponsorship money is a huge step backwards in the channel’s commitment to climate action. Together we’ll tell them - loud and clear - that siding with fossil fuel companies in 2020 is unacceptable.

Sign your name to call on Channel 4 to cancel this BP sponsorship deal!

In times of emergency, vulnerable communities, like disabled people, are more at risk. As climate breakdown worsens, impacts on disabled people will be disproportionately high.

BP shouldn’t be able to plaster their logo over any public event, full stop. But to be sponsoring the Paralympics, such a significant event on the global sporting calendar – and for disabled people across the world – is even more insulting.

BP's sponsorship of arts, cultural institutions and events like the Paralympic Games help uphold their 'social licence to operate'. This gives them public recognition and legitimacy, while they continue drilling for the oil and gas that is causing the climate crisis.

Together we can show Channel 4 that we don’t want the Paralympics to be used to greenwash the reputations of polluting fossil fuel companies.

Sign the petition calling on Channel 4 to be on the right side of history and say no to money from climate-wrecking fossil fuel companies NOW.

Onwards,
