The Quarterly Highlights is a snapshot of Solidarity Center programs and organizational activities. The Solidarity Center works around the globe helping workers build collective voice and more just societies through organizing and advocacy.

HIGH-LEVEL GLOBAL INITIATIVE: WORKER RIGHTS FUNDAMENTAL TO DEMOCRACY

Representatives from governments, unions, philanthropic organizations and the Solidarity Center met in Washington in December to underscore their commitment to strengthening worker rights to ensure thriving democracies through the global initiative, M-POWER.

SALIDARNAST SHINES A LIGHT ON BELARUS UNION REPRESSION

While the independent Belarus union movement has been dismantled and itsleaders imprisoned, a new worker rights organization, Salidarnast, is tracking and disseminating updates on union political prisoners’ legal cases, and providing other worker rights news.

DELIVERY DRIVERS LAUNCH UNION IN THE PHILIPPINES

More than 100 food delivery riders launched the Iloilo Grab Riders Union in November demanding just fares, paid sick leave and other social protections, and union recognition. The Solidarity Center and others supported the launch. 

STANDING UP TO GENDER VIOLENCE AT WORK, COMMUNITIES IN LESOTHO

Thousands of garment workers are fighting gender-based violence and harassment at workand in their communitiesafter participating in education and awareness training at factories, part of a pathbreaking, worker-centered program negotiated in part by the Solidarity Center.

IN MEMORIAM: MOUSSA EL JERIES, ‘ABU GEORGE’ 

The global labor movement lost a giant in December. Moussa El Jeries, affectionately known as Abu George, was a Palestinian refugee who became a tireless champion of working people around the world.
