Project Connect fairs offer free community services at three locations
Traditionally held each year, Project Connect events offer free, one-stop services fairs for individuals and families who may be homeless, face the imminent risk of homelessness, or need access to community services. This month, Project Connect will take place at three different sites ? one in each part of the county ? to better reach more Kitsap residents.
Events are scheduled:??
- Tuesday, January 24, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Gateway Church, 18901 8th Ave NE, Poulsbo
- Wednesday, January 25, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., The Salvation Army, 832 6th Street, Bremerton
- Thursday, January 26, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Port Orchard Methodist Church, 725 Kitsap Street, Port Orchard
Each of the three 2023 Project Connect sites will have slightly different vendors, tailoring offerings to what is available to residents in that geographic area. Lunch will be provided at each of the sites for all attendees.
Last time the event was held in 2020, about 350 local, low-income and homeless residents attended the three Project Connect events. Over 50 organizations provided services including housing referrals, immunizations, eye exams, health screenings, rabies shots, sleeping bags, coats, haircuts, and more.
Project Connect is held in conjunction with the annual Point-in-Time Count survey of people experiencing homelessness, conducted by the Kitsap County Department of Human Services. Guests at Project Connect are asked to participate in the survey, which helps local and state leaders better understand community needs and homelessness trends. The results also influence state and local funding decisions.
Project Connect is coordinated by the Kitsap Housing and Homelessness Coalition, a network which includes homeless and affordable housing service providers as well as organizations serving homeless and low-income residents of our community.
