After an embarrassing start, House Republicans have officially taken power. Their first order of business was no surprise: They passed a massive tax giveaway for multimillionaires and big corporations.
The GOP's plan "defunds the IRS." But make no mistake: Their plan only helps the rich who want to cheat the system and increases the national deficit.
That's not right. Last year I led Senate Democrats in passing the Inflation Reduction Act to update old technology and hire more people at the IRS to answer the phones and process tax returns -- because Americans deserve quick turnaround on anything to do with their money. And most importantly, the biggest corporations and the wealthiest donors shouldn't get away with paying nothing in taxes.
