The 2022 Economic Census mail out is set to begin January 31. The economic census is the U.S. government’s official five-year measure of businesses in the United States and their economic impact. Sent to over 4.2 million business locations, this provides the most comprehensive data available at the national, state and local level, representing most industries and geographies. Invitations to respond will be sent to selected businesses across the nation on January 31. These businesses will be asked to respond online by March 15 using an improved data collection instrument.

Building a Custom Table Using Microdata Access

Watch this video to learn how to use Microdata Access (MDAT) through data.census.gov, and create customized tabulation without the need for special programming or statistical software.

Our participatory classes walk you through examples of creating tables in the Microdata Access Tool (MDAT) within data.census.gov. Microdata Access on data.census.gov/mdat allows you to create custom tables that are not available in the pre-made tables on data.census.gov without having to use your own statistical software or special programming.

Registration is required to attend these workshops. Attendance is limited to 50 participants per session.

This Census Academy webinar series offers hands-on workshops to help you locate data using Census Bureau data tools. Whether you're a new or experienced user, explore our data tools with our experienced staff.

Explore 5 different types of Census Bureau geographies by learning their backgrounds; when and where to access data associated with them; and how to manipulate data.census.gov to locate these geographies quickly. We will take a look at the history and the logic behind the following Census Bureau geographies: (1) Census Tract, (2) Tribal Areas, (3) Congressional Districts, (4) School Districts, and (5) Public-Use Microdata Areas. This is an interactive training, and we will break attendees into "rooms" in order to participate as groups in hands-on exercises.
